Pakistani crew will be handed over to Pak Embassy Thursday: Ansar Burney















KARACHI: The Chairman of the Ansar Burney Trust International and former Federal Minister for human rights, Ansar Burney has announced that the 6 Pakistani crew members of the recently released vessel MT Morning Glory have now all been cleared by a Libyan Court and are expected to be released from Libyan detention and handed over to the Pakistani Embassy in Tripoli on Thursday.

Ansar Burney thanked the Libyan Attorney General's office and the Libyan Government and confirmed that the crew of MT Morning Glory comprising 6 Pakistanis, 6 Indians, 3 Sri Lankans, 2 Syrians, 2 Sudanese and 2 Eritreans will all be released and are, thereafter, expected to return to their respective countries.

He particularly thanked and lauded the efforts of the President Mamnoon Hussain, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Pakistan Ambassador at Libya Lt Gen (r) Javaid Zia, and stated that their concern and actions not only saved 6 Pakistani nationals, but those of other nations as well, proving once again that we as a nation believe in humanity and human dignity without any discrimination and beyond national borders.

Ansar Burney said that after rescue by American forces from Cyprian sea water the ship along with her 21 crew had reached Libya, where the crew had been taken into custody pending investigation; but all 21 had now been released by the Libyan court and were expected to return to their homes within days.

For efforts in the rescue of the vessel, Burney thanked US President Barrack Obama, the Secretary General of NATO Anders Fogh Rasmussen and the US Embassy at Islamabad.

The 6 Pakistani crew of the vessel are: Mirza Noman Baig (Captain), Ghufran Marghoob Ahmed (Chief Officer), Syed Muhammad Mehdi Shamsi (2nd Officer), Syed Asif Hassan (3rd Officer), Naik Zada (Crew Member), Muhammad Irshad (Crew Member).
