KARACHI: Fishermen dragged a 18 to 20 foot female whale-shark onto the Karachi Fish Harbour on Wednesday
The whale pictures released show the dead whale with blood near its head, The fishermen claimed that the shark got caught in their net accidentally and they dragged it to shore but according to World Wildlife Federation (WWF) spokesperson the shark was killed.
Whale sharks are highly valued on international markets and demand for their meat, fins and oil remains a threat to the species, according to the WWF website. The species face a high risk of extinction in the wild.
Restrictions should be imposed on killing these animals, the WWF spokesperson.
