Agreement to carry on talks a major breakthrough: Maulana Sami

PESHAWAR: Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) Maulana Samiul Haq Wednesday termed the agreement between the government negotiation committee and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Shura a major breakthrough.

Talking to media persons here following today’s maiden round of direct talks between the government and TTP, Maulana Sami said the agreement to continue the peace talks has set in motion the process of mutual understanding.

He said important leaders represented the Taliban in the first round of direct dialogue. The government committee, Taliban Shura and Taliban negotiation committee held talks for 7 hours today and both the sides lent a keen ear to each other’s stance, he added.

“Our utmost effort would be to ensure that the dialogue process does not hit a deadlock,” Maulana Samiul Haq said.

Professor Ibrahim, on the occasion, said it is hoped that the country will soon witness restoration of peace.
